Street photography in Paris – for the sake of art

Hello, dear readers!

It is with great pleasure that I take you on a journey through Paris through the lens of my camera. As a street photographer, I have had the privilege of capturing the city in its most authentic and vibrant moments, and I can’t wait to share my experiences with you.

Choosing to rent an apartment in Paris on a long-term basis has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Having my own base to return to has allowed me to explore the city at my own pace and truly immerse myself in its culture and atmosphere. And when it comes to photographing Paris, nothing beats being able to come back to a comfortable and familiar place after a long day on the streets.

Being a street photographer in Paris is like being in the middle of a work of art. Every alley, every square, every facade is filled with its own unique history and character. I love wandering through the streets of Montmartre and capturing the small moments of everyday life unfolding around me. From a street musician playing his guitar to a group of friends sharing a bottle of wine on the sidewalk—every image tells a story worth remembering.

But it’s not just the iconic landmarks that draw me in as a street photographer. It’s also the more remote and forgotten parts of the city that I love to explore. From the charming alleys of the Marais to the bustling markets of Belleville—there’s always something new to discover and document.

Renting an apartment long-term has also given me the opportunity to truly integrate into local life. I’ve had the chance to get to know my neighbors, discover my favorite cafés and shops, and really feel like a part of the community. It’s this sense of belonging that has made my time in Paris so special and my photographs so authentic.

As a street photographer, my passion is to capture life in its purest form and share it with the world. Through my camera, I’ve tried to capture the soul and beauty of Paris, and I hope my photos can inspire others to discover and love this amazing city as much as I do.

Paris and France: A Travel Journal

Hi, friends!

It’s so wonderful to finally be able to share my adventures in Paris and France with you. Spending time here has truly been like stepping into a Claude Monet painting—colorful, lively, and full of surprises around every corner.

I started my journey by renting an apartment in Paris on a long-term basis, which turned out to be a fantastic decision. Having my own place to come back to after a day of exploring has given me the perfect balance between discovering the city and feeling like a local.

The first time I strolled along the Seine, it was like stepping into a romantic movie. The twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower, the historic bridges, and the charming riverboat cafés created a magical atmosphere that I won’t soon forget. And the food! Croissants for breakfast, cheese and baguette for lunch, and a delicious bouillabaisse for dinner—I really ate my way through Paris.

But the trip wasn't just about Paris. Renting an apartment gave me the chance to explore other parts of France as well. I took the train to Provence and was enchanted by the blooming lavender fields and the picturesque villages that looked like they'd been plucked straight from a postcard.

Another highlight was my trip to the Loire Valley, where I explored one castle after another and felt like a real princess. Experiencing the breath of history up close was a feeling I won’t soon forget.

But it’s not just the sights that have made this trip unforgettable. It’s the little moments—sitting at an outdoor café and watching the world go by, taking a stroll along the cobblestone streets of Montmartre, and sharing a glass of wine with new friends at a local tavern—that have made me feel like a part of this wonderful culture.

But it wasn’t just Paris that drew me in—I wanted to explore more of France. One weekend, I took the train to Bordeaux, where I lost myself in the world of wine and enjoyed the rich cultural scene. Another day, I took a trip to Normandy and felt the presence of history as I stood by the white cliffs of Étretat.

One of the most memorable moments was when I visited Versailles. Walking through the magnificent gardens and exploring the splendid palace made me feel like I was part of history. It was like stepping into another era and experiencing royal splendor up close.

But it wasn’t just the major sights that made this trip special. It was also the small moments of joy and simplicity—sitting at a bistro and enjoying a cup of coffee, sharing a picnic at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and strolling along the Seine at sunset—that truly enriched my experience.

As I sit here reflecting on my time in Paris and France, I feel an immense sense of gratitude. This adventure has not only enriched my life with new experiences and memories, but it has also opened my heart to the beauty and diversity that exist all around the world.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope my stories have inspired you to explore the world and create your own memories.

Hugs and baguettes,
Fredrik

The Christmas Spirit in Paris and France

Welcome to France, where every corner of Paris sparkles with Christmas lights and every village is filled with the aroma of freshly roasted chestnuts!

The journey begins in the romantic city of Paris, which in many ways stands in stark contrast to our beloved capital, Stockholm.

Paris and Christmas Markets – A Feast for the Senses
Paris will have you on the edge of your seat. The Christmas markets along the Champs-Élysées are unlike anything else, with their beautiful stalls selling everything from handmade Christmas decorations to fragrant, warm crêpes. Compared to Stockholm and its Christmas market in the Old Town, Paris offers a sense of glamorous festivity, where every cup of mulled wine becomes a journey through the joy of Christmas.

Montmartre at Christmas – artistic snow and warming mulled wine
Montmartre is decked out in winter finery, like a postcard scene from a magical Christmas. The artists in the square create Christmas art that fills the streets, and the small cafés serve mulled wine that warms both heart and soul. Compared to Södermalm in Stockholm, where the winter sun reflects off snow-covered rooftops, Montmartre offers a sense of artistic warmth in the middle of winter.

Christmas in Provence – the scents of grapevines and freshly roasted chestnuts
Now we’re taking the train south to Provence, where Christmas lights adorn the grapevines like ornaments on a Christmas tree. The aromas from the market’s chestnut carts mingle with the scent of freshly mulled wine. Compared to Swedish Christmas celebrations, where mulled wine and gingerbread cookies dominate, Provence offers a unique experience where traditional French Christmas specialties take center stage.

Christmas Dinner in Lyon – A Culinary Feast
The journey continues to Lyon, where Christmas dinner becomes a culinary spectacle. From saffron-scented fish soup to creamy brie and magnificent meat stews. Compared to the Swedish Christmas buffet, where herring and meatballs take center stage, French Christmas food offers a seductive dance of flavors and textures.

A Comparison with Stockholm and Sweden
Compared to Paris and France, Stockholm and Sweden are like a quiet winter fairy tale. The Christmas lights in Old Town resemble the twinkling stars in a snow-covered sky, while the Christmas tree at Sergels Torg becomes a central gathering place for the peace of Christmas. Sweden invites you to a quiet and traditional Christmas, while Paris and France offer a festive carnival of scents, flavors, and glitter.

As the year draws to a close, Paris transforms into a glittering stage for New Year’s celebrations. The Eiffel Tower becomes an impressive display of colors and lights, and the crowds on the Champs de Mars create an electric atmosphere. Compared to Stockholm’s fireworks show over Skeppsbron, Paris offers a sense of glamour and festivity that welcomes in the New Year.

Celebrate Midnight Mass at Notre-Dame – Spirituality Amid Festivity
A short train ride takes us to Notre-Dame, where Midnight Mass is a spiritual highlight. The cathedral’s magnificent architecture is accentuated by the beautiful Christmas decorations, and the light from the Advent candlesticks creates a serene atmosphere. Compared to Swedish Christmas Eve Masses, where churches are filled with singing and lit candles, Notre-Dame offers a unique combination of spirituality and celebration.

Toast with Champagne – A French Tradition
To wrap up our magical Christmas journey, we toast with champagne, a French tradition that marks the transition into the new year. The elegant champagne houses in the region light up the night, and every sip feels like a festive greeting to the year ahead. Compared to Swedish celebrations, where sparkling wine is often shared at home, the French champagne experience adds an extra touch of luxury and glamour.

A Unique Christmas Trip
This is how we’ve experienced Christmas in Paris and France, where traditions blend with festivity and every moment becomes a memorable part of French culture. Compared to Swedish Christmas celebrations, which are often characterized by family traditions and togetherness, Paris offers a sense of spectacular joy and a larger-scale social celebration.

Whether you follow the glow of the lights along the Seine, attend the midnight mass at Notre-Dame, or toast with champagne on the Champs-Élysées, Christmas in Paris will be a journey through magic and tradition. Merry Christmas and a brilliant New Year from Paris, with love and joy!

Stockholm and Paris – Highlights and Comparisons!

Welcome to France, where every street feels like a page from a romantic novel and every village is a painting straight out of an artist’s dream. The journey begins in the world’s most romantic city, Paris, which in many ways contrasts with our beloved capital, Stockholm.

Paris and the Eiffel Tower – A Declaration of Love for Architecture

The Eiffel Tower stands proudly over Paris like a giant iron spire. It is as if Gustave Eiffel, the architect behind this masterpiece, wanted to create a monument to eternal love and beauty. Compared to Stockholm’s beautiful City Hall and Old Town, the Eiffel Tower feels like an icon that holds Paris in an embrace of love.

Montmartre – The Heart of Art

The next stop is the bohemian neighborhood of Montmartre. Narrow alleys wind their way up to Sacré-Cœur, which watches over the city like a guardian angel. It’s like stepping back in time, with artists creating masterpieces on every street corner. Compared to Stockholm’s artistic scenes, such as the vibrant artists’ quarter of Södermalm, Montmartre evokes a nostalgic sense of a bygone era.

Provence – The Land of Light and Fragrances

Now we’re taking the train south to Provence, where fields of lavender stretch as far as the eye can see. The scents are overwhelming, and the colors create a palette of tranquility and beauty. Compared to Swedish summers, Provence is like an explosion of color and scent—a true sensory journey.

The Riviera – Glamour and Sunsets

Continuing south takes us to the glamorous French Riviera. Here we are greeted by swaying palm trees, sparkling waters, and elegant boulevards. Compared to the Stockholm archipelago, the Riviera evokes a sense of jet-set living and luxury, where every sunset is like a painting over the Mediterranean.

Comparison with Stockholm and Sweden

Compared to Paris and France, Stockholm and Sweden are like a calm and harmonious melody. The picturesque alleys of Gamla Stan are reminiscent of the narrow streets of Montmartre, while the archipelago offers a peaceful contrast to the opulence of the Riviera.

Sweden offers its own unique charm and beauty, with its deep forests, crystal-clear lakes, and open landscapes. Paris and France, on the other hand, embrace a passion for art, culture, and gastronomy that is hard to find anywhere else.

Versailles – The Splendor of History and the Splendor of the Gardens

Our journey deepens as we arrive at Versailles, where the palace stands as a living time capsule of the French monarchy’s golden age. The gardens stretch out in all their splendor, creating a perfect symphony between architecture and nature. Compared to Swedish royal residences like Drottningholm Palace, Versailles evokes a sense of opulence and historical grandeur, where every step feels like a journey through time.

The Loire Valley – The Land of Wine and Castles

The journey continues along the Loire Valley, known for its vineyards and impressive castles. Here we are greeted by vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see and castles rising up like fairytale fortresses. Compared to Swedish vineyards that spread across Skåne’s rolling landscape, the Loire Valley exudes a sense of tradition and elegance, where each vineyard is like an artistic creation in its own right.

Culinary Experience – French Delicacies Meet Swedish Diversity

No visit to France is complete without enjoying its exquisite cuisine. French cuisine is renowned for its finesse and culinary artistry. From buttery croissants to creamy Camembert cheeses, every bite is a burst of flavor. Compared to Swedish food culture, which is known for its diversity and connection to nature, French cuisine offers a different experience where every meal becomes an event in itself.

Comparing Sweden and Stockholm is like reading two different chapters of the same book. Sweden offers a calm and serene beauty, while France entices with its passion and vibrancy. Whether you choose to stroll along the Seine in Paris, explore the castles of the Loire Valley, or enjoy the Swedish summer light, every moment will be a journey through contrasts and beauty. Bon voyage and have a wonderful trip!
